Address Verification Services (AVS)

AVS is a credit card processing feature used to verify a cardholder's billing address. This feature provides fraud screening help for Internet transactions.

Application Programming Interface (API)

An application programming interface (API) is a set of definitions that describe how one piece of software may communicate with another piece of software. PSiGate provides an XML API to our merchants so that they can integrate their website with our payment gateway. If you are using 3rd party software such as a shopping cart or storefront software package, the software company should have previously integrated with our API.

Chargeback

A dispute process, initiated by the card issuer (usually in response to the cardholder due to non-shipment of goods, non-delivery of services, fraud, etc.) after receipt of the initial charge.

CVV, CV2, CVV2, etc

This card verification tool involves matching the three-digit or four-digit security code that is printed on the back of most credit cards (or sometimes on the front). This program is designed to reduce fraud in the card-not-present environment by validating that the person submitting the Visa, MasterCard or AMEX credit card number possesses the physical card.

MDR - Merchant Discount Rate

The MDR (Merchant Discount Rate) is the percentage of the transaction amount that PSiGate and other credit card processing companies charge for providing a merchant the authorization to accept payment cards.

Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)

This is a protocol for transferring data between a web site user and a web site. A web site uses SSL to encrypt data sent to and from a web browser. This encryption prevents the data from being read as it is transmitted over the Internet.

Virtual Terminal/eTerminal

You can process card transactions manually with your web browser via the PSiGate Virtual Terminal/eTerminal. You do not need PC software (other than your browser) or a card swipe terminal, and can skip the leases and fees associated with that equipment.

Credit Card Acceptance, Online Merchant Processing - The ability to accept payment online is an important part of all e-commerce. Credit card processing requires two separate services. A merchant account allows your business to accept credit cards and other forms of electronic payment by setting up an account between you and an acquiring bank. This account includes the processing of transactions and the deposit of funds to your merchant bank account. An Internet payment gateway authorizes secure, real time processing of credit card transactions online. It encrypts your customer's sensitive data via a secure sockets layer (SSL) and acts as an intermediary between your business and your bank.

You can keep your current account and add a payment gateway or choose a combined merchant account and gateway package and start accepting credit cards through your website! A reliable merchant account provider is essential if you're doing business on the Internet. PSiGate specializes in Merchant Account and Payment Gateway processing for Canadian or US businesses. PSiGate offers a variety of merchant service packages, ranging from a Canadian Dollar merchant account through Visa and Mastercard, US Dollar merchant accounts, which do NOT require a Canadian merchant to have a US address or US tax identifier number. Each PSiGate merchant account includes an eTerminal for phone and fax orders, real-time online reports of your transactions, API toolkits to integrate Web sites and FraudShield.
